Cuttlebug-Big Kick Techniques
For all of the Cuttlebug owners who want to learn some great new techniques for using the stencils go to this wonderful blog by Claire Brennan.  She is truly talented and shows very detailed instructions!!!  I own a Big Kick and it works just as well.  I have found that you do not have to wet the paper to get a clear and defined look with the embossing.

Stationery can be embossed alone or stenciled on top of the embossing.   This adds a three-dimensional look with the color.  To do this follow the procedure of embossing and flip the paper over so the stencil is on top of the paper.   You can stencil with as many colors as desired using a different brush for each color.  Wash brushes and stencils with hot soapy water.

How to Stencil & Emboss:

Embossing:  Using a light source- such as a light box, window, or glass table with a light under it- place the paper over the stencil.  Trace the outline of the stencil design with the larger end of the stylus.  You can do this on stationery or other paper-related items.

Stenciling:  Use a dry flat bristle brush and pounce up and down. Switch brushes when applying a new color.   Reapply paint as needed.  Shade by applying more paint to the desired area.   Hint: designate a brush for each color and you will never need to wash your brush if using ink.
What kind of paint do I use?

Any kind of paint can be used with our stencils but the easiest way to stencil is to use VersaCraft inks that you use with the rubber stamps.  VersaCraft inks are permanent on Fabric, Paper, Wood, Candles, Etc..

We like to use VersaCraft inks for stationery.  They are perfect because they put the exact amount of paint (ink) on the brush.   You don't have to worry about dabbing off excess paint.    Heat set fabric with  a heating tool or an iron on the appropriate setting (same as fabric) for 30 seconds.   If you designate a brush for each color you never have to wash your brush if you use the inks.  They never dry out!!  We love that!

Other Fabric paints can be used.  For best results, make sure your brush is almost dry before stenciling.
